What is structured cabling and why does it matter?

Structured cabling is a standardised approach to installing and terminating network cable throughout a building. Certified cable, properly run, properly terminated, properly labelled, with test results to prove it works. It matters because bad cabling is behind most unexplained network issues, slow connections and hardware problems that get blamed on everything else first. A structured cabling installation is warranted and built to last 15 to 25 years. The cable is always the last thing people suspect and the first thing we check.

How do I know if my cabling is the problem?

Slow speeds on wired connections, intermittent dropouts, hardware that works fine on one port but not another, and connectivity issues nobody can pin down are all common signs. We can test every cable run in your building and give you a clear result on each one, including where faults are, whether they can be fixed, and what needs replacing. Most buildings have a mix of cables in good shape and cables that have never been tested properly.

What is the difference between Cat6 and Cat6A?

Cat6 handles 10Gbps speeds up to 55 metres. Cat6A handles the same up to 100 metres and is better shielded against interference. For most office environments Cat6 is the right call. For server rooms, large floor plates or environments with high electrical interference, Cat6A is worth the extra cost. We specify what the environment actually needs, not the cheapest option and not the most expensive one.

Can you work in a building that is still occupied?

Yes, most of our data and electrical work happens in occupied commercial buildings. We plan cable routes, access requirements and disruption windows with your team before we start. Where ceiling access or after-hours work is needed, we schedule around your operation. The goal is that your staff barely notice we were there.
